SELECTION OF ESPECIALLY THERAPEUTIC SCULPTURES:


POMPEJI
In the sculptures ensemble Pompeii I have depicted which different types of reactions there are to traumatic events.

 

 

Have you already been to Pompeii? If you look at the first three people, you will notice that they take the same position as the people who have been found in Pompeii : asleep, eyes covered or their heads stuck in the sand. It shows various ways in which people react to a problem. But I added some other possible reactions: the surprised, petrified child who does not know what to do, the fighting one, the one running away, the supplicant / petitioner and the ones embracing. Each of us has his/her own patterns ! And ...the psychoanalysis often uses the mountain as a symbol for a problem ...so Mount Vesuvius is the perfect symbol for every problem which appears ...

VICTIM - OFFENDER
I often use my sculptures in therapy sessions to illustrate a situation. Here is an example of the " victimization " of a boy:

 


I encourage the affected person to imitate the attitude of this sculpture, to describe the sculpture´s details and then we reflect the induced feeling which the person has gotten together. 

I also invite them to take the opposite position, the " perpetrator attitude " .

"Perpetrators" who put up with nothing . Firstly, with teenagers it is often surprising how much of an impact just their different position of their body can have on their emotional state - head lowered , early shoulders, knees together , one-legged stance versus fine head, secure footing and a strong upper body. On the other hand, it is sometimes surprising to me that some teenagers´ muscles are already fixed in their victimhood so that they can not put their shoulder backwards and down – so their muscles are already shortened.


BEHIND YOU
In the group of sculptures " behind you " 

I wanted to visualize how much " women power " is behind each woman: Sixteen women in five rows . In the first row , " the " woman. In the second row - her mother. In the third row - her two grandmothers. In the fourth row her four great-grandmothers. In the fifth row her eight great- great-grandmothers . In the sixth row one would already find sixteen great-great- great-grandmothers ... etc. All the women give their energy - positive or negative – down to the next generation ..... Women Power .

PROXIMITY - DISTANCE
When the topics of proximity- distance or detachment and letting go come up in a family discussion, I often use the following sculptures.

 

 

The sculptures are slidable on a rail: At the beginning  mother and child are usually very close (sculptures are very close together). With puberty, the detachment begins and the child distances himself/herself ( demonstration ). If the mother follows ( demonstration ) , the child goes away even further ( demonstration ) ....if the mother follows again ( demonstration ) ..... the dynamics will move toward the abyss , until ..... eventually the child can not go any further ( demonstration ) and it falls into the abyss.

Return to the starting position : If the child goes, but the mother remains in the same position (demonstration ), the child and the mother have the opportunity to find a new distance between them and eventually the child will come closer again ( demonstration).


DISEASES
If I want to explain diseases and their psychological background, I like to illustrate them with my sculptures. Be it

 

the eating disorders , the metabolic syndrome ,

 

or ADHD ( attention deficit hyperactivity disorder )  with its three different types.

 

   the dreamer, the hyperactive and the impulsive.

 

In lectures , it is quite useful to be able to demonstrate these three different types plastically, because as a child and adolescent psychiatrist one is often confronted with people who do not put “dreamers” into the category of attention deficit disorders. Most of them have only the image of loud , hyperactive troublemakers in mind .

WITHOUT WORDS
One soldier, three Jews. Two Jews plead for their lives. One is already dead.
The soldier should fulfill his duty - he turns his body dutifully towards the people who are begging for their lives - but he turns away his head. He can not look at them. His fists are clenched. He holds his breath ... what is he going to do?

 


"Let him who is without sin cast the first stone"

With my series “CONTRASTS” I like to show what a huge INFLUENCE OUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE HAS on our posture.

 

CONTRAST I: 

The anorexic and the thick. The thin blocks everything - food, feelings, love ... she is proud – proud to be able to say “no” and disgusted by the thick who can not say that. The thick is shy and insecure. Her fat is some kind of protective cover to prevent her from getting hurt.

 

CONTRAST III: 

The bodybuilder and the intellectual. In addition to the "hardly" divergent physique, I wanted to specifically point out that what we wear in front of our body axis is what seems most important to us. The intellectual his head - the bodybuilder his pectoral muscle or something lying deeper. The heads do have the same size, but the head of the bodybuilder looks a lot smaller.

CONTRAST II: 

The fun-loving and depressed. The positions of their hands do not differ a lot, but one is showing her female forms in full love of life, whereas the other one is pressed by the burden of her life, and bent down because of her (back) pain.

 

I have dedicated a whole series of sculptures to a psychotherapeutic method that has been developed by Dr. Manfred Clynes called: "THE SENTIC CYCLE" (After he had taught me the method, he allowed me to create sculptures for this cycle).
THE IDEA: In this method one triggers the most important human emotions in a defined order and expresses them in form of finger pressure.

 

It starts with the "NO- FEELING" , the "nothing " , the neutrality of emotions. Dr. Manfred Clynes calls it "no emotions" .

After one has expressed this “no-feeling” 20-40 times for about 3 to 4 minutes with a finger print, you switch to the next emotion: ANGER   This emotion is also “expressed” 20-40 times.

 

The same way you proceed with the feelings of

 

HATE , GRIEF , LOVE , SEXUALITY , JOY , DEVOTION .

 

I myself allowed me to add one position in my sculptures sequence: The charge or funnel posture which has its origin in yoga.

 

 

While this is not a feeling, it is a way of refueling one´s eergy in order to switch from the emptiness of grief to the fullness of love.

THE GOAL is to go through the full range of emotions and not get stuck with one feeling. After that, one feels more peaceful,  more enjoyable and one comes in conjunction with his real self.

 

Now, if you believe that I am only choosing pathologies of humanity or psychotherapeutic issues for my sculptures, I can reassure you: Quite a lot of my work have nothing to do with diseases. Their goal is to DIRECTLY increase HARMONY, BALANCE AND HEALING.

 

I use the activity of mirror neurons. Mirror neurons are neurons in the brain which cause the same pattern of activity come up in our brains while watching something, as they would occur if we would actually perform this move (actively) ourselves not merely watch (passively). Thus, anything that you allow to have an impact on you, will be mirrored in you. So if you see a sculpture that represents harmony , balance or the flow of energy then these feelings will be transferred to you and you will "automatically" understand them. Whatever you allow to affect you, is mirrored inside of you: You might feel free, powerful, strong or the need to smile when you see sculptures with these features.

 

 

What you see here is not a "real" tango position , but a position that shows what I love about tango: the harmony and the marginal physical contact that is sufficient to know which movement follows. It is passion, dedication and individuality at the same time.

 

Also my latest sculptures belong into this last group: HEALTH THROUGH HARMONY. They open a new chapter of my work, because they are made ​​of steel and they mainly represent the energy flow in the body, not the body itself. The INTENTION IS TO MAKE THE VIEWER AWARE OF HIS TRUE POTENTIAL, HIS TRUE NATURE. 
 

All the sculptures and paintings from the series "Health through harmony" directly promote harmony, balance and healing in the viewer.

Today I want to show you just one example. The male and female energy meeting at the Heart Center.

 

 

For the first time the complete exhibition with these sculptures will be on display in November 2014 in the Gallery Centrum in Graz.

 

Now I have led you swiftly through the world of my sculptures. Finally, I would like to show you one last way my sculptures can be used. I wrote STORIES with and about my sculptures "generation nintendo" and "sexual abuse and it´s outcome". The stories are similar to the ones that today's youth has told me, but fictitious.

Examples of those stories can you find under the chapter "STORIES".

 

 

As an artist and specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy there is probably nothing more natural than to express artistically, what I have encountered in my psychiatric and psychotherapeutic work, what touches me, what concerns me.
In professional circles the "youth of today" is called "Generation Nintendo", as they grow up very differently than adults of today, which means their parents, did. They have already been confronted with information and communication technology during their  childhood which makes them the first generation that experienced the information age throughout. People of this age group consider dealing with computers, Internet and phone as a matter of course.
This "Generation Nintendo" is therefore confronted with a very different reality, quite different requirements and social structures than their parents ever were. This has “positive aspects” such as the "facebook - revolutions", faster exchange of knowledge, etc. but can also lead to affluent neglect, loneliness, social incompetence, increased hyperactivity and aggressiveness, etc.
These issues, as well as bullying, abuse, eating disorders and much more complications which we encounter in our everyday lives are taken up by me and thus find their way into the world of bronze sculptures.
The exhibition is touring as part of a traveling exhibition around the world. Start of the tour was Klagenfurt in May of 2010. The exhibition then emigrated to Basel, New York, Ulm and Essen.
The aim is to draw attention to the conditions and grievances of affected children and adolescents. To sensitize parents, relatives, neighbors, friends , teachers, society, the politicians, decision-makers, to open their eyes and ears and their mouth and stand up for the children. EVERTHING IS ENERGY

 

Energy can not be lost, it can only pass from one form of energy into another - energy conservation law .

Everything, us an everything around us, is energy. Our body is materialized, condensed energy, the vessel, the shell that we got to enclose our personal, inner, spiritual energy during our time on our planet. Both energies, the material and spiritual energy are constantly interacting with each other and that is why it is so important that both energies can flow freely without blockages. If they do not, we get sick ( S.U. ) .
Our individual energies are part of the universal, infinite energy. Since energy has the ability to be constantly moving, changing, it appears in different forms. One of the forms of spiritual energy is in the physical body on earth.


Many people wonder why we are on earth. Mike Bastin, who is Cherokee, said, during a speech in the Peace Village in Vermont in 2012, that this is quite simple: " you can not taste chocolate at the other side." What he is trying to say is that the physical shell enables us to have so many other, new, beautiful experiences, which we can not find in other forms of energy. And the "Earth-experiences " are a very special addition to our energy vibration.
In this regard, once again back to school for some physics : What exactly is energy? E = m x C². So energy is mass times velocity squared. In other words energy is always some energy particles (atoms) that move. We also know that each particle has its optimal vibration and movement frequency. Similar to the vibration of a guitar string, if we hit them optimally, it sounds best . How do we, as a sum of many atoms, achieve our optimal vibration ?
As already mentioned, each experience influences and changes the vibration of our individual energy and therefore the whole infinite energy. To achieve the highest level of vibration, it is important to make a lot of experiences and to find one´s purpose in life. Everyone has  a specific task - a purpose in life - which he should explore and live for the well-being of all of us. The task can also change in the course of life. It means nothing more than that each and everyone of us gets to his perfect vibration by fulfilling ones´ tasks of life so we can enrich the universal energy as best as each of us is able to. Like a perfectly battered instrument in an orchestra .
Eric Alexander is also of the opinion that health, beauty and wealth have a high frequency. Disease has a low one. Depending on the frequency at which we vibrate , we attract different things. For equalities always attract each other!
For the orchestral sound to be perfect our spiritual energies need to move where they are most needed (in physics this is known as osmos): For some, this means that they will be born in Africa, for others, that they will be born in Austria.
If we slip into our material sheaths (fertilization), we are still charged with the infinite energy - one could say: our batteries are charged. However, the size of the batteries the state of charge and the discharge time vary. The Buddhists say that you reap the seeds of past life in the present life. In this sense, the " Battery Dimension " is perhaps due to our previous life.
On the material level, babies/people need different amounts of food to sustain their metabolism. On a spiritual level we need different amounts of attention to feel good - some need a lot of attention / energy from the outside, others can be very happy with themselves for a long time. Depending on this, we all tap a different amount of energy sources, with varying intensity. The energy that is usually the easiest to get for a baby is the one from his/her mother or its closest family. This pattern of energy procurement from other people is very common and will often remain the same as life continues. So there are many who maintain their energy levels at the expense of other people and also the other way around that people get their energetically sucked from other people or activities. Sometimes the state of charge is perhaps only slightly reduced, sometimes it may come to a complete discharge. The batteries get empty. Now the question comes up of how the batteries can be recharged? Is it enough to just suck some energy out of other persons – a vicious circle of energy theft (we can see disputes over energy at all levels at the moment) - or can we actually “tap” the universal, infinite energy of which all of us are a part of!

This of course raises the question: How can we tap the infinite energy?
Many of us are not aware of their their access to the universal , infinite energy . But everyone knows it. Whether you boost your energy by wandering around in nature, lying in the sun , traveling , swimming in the water , dancing, singing , playing music , being creative, doing sports, doing yoga or meditating - no matter! Everyone has his/her own individual energy channels which they should find and maintain. ( Who says that there is only one way of connecting to the infinite energy, has his/her focus on other things-mostly power I think.


A lot of people manage to recharge their “energy batteries” on vacations, on weekends or in their spare time. Some of us do not really know what they are looking for so they often confuse the good feeling they have for example when they bought something beautiful - new shoes , new clothes , new car , etc. or the tingle of a new love affair, with the good feeling of being connected to the infinite energy. Thereby they get lost in substitutive satisfactions and a fake connection because they do not know the direct access. This energy is usually vanished quite quickly. So many have the experience that they completely discharge their " power battery" – the consequence can be a burn out . Then it takes a massive reduction of energy consumers and a power recharging ( eg therapy) to get back into one´s energetic balance .
Just as there are different types of access, there are also different places, situations , rituals which enable each of us to find one´s access. Whether it's the top of a mountain , a forest glade , the sea , a church, a pyramid, religious or spiritual ceremonies - everything can serve to reinforce the energy.
As our everyday life usually requires a lot of energy, it should be our primary goal to establish a balance between energy charge and discharge. In principle, we achieve the balance by having  the same amount of energy input than output. When one has reached a good balance, it depends on the height of the energy level  whether one radiates weaker or stronger. It is very similar to a light bulb in which little current flow lead to soft rays, or a lot of current flow to a very strong radiation – same as in the "enlightenment" .
In my opinion being enlightened means  to have unrestricted access to the infinite energy - to be completely filled with it . Because this is so much energy, one shines.
To achieve such a high energy level which one needs to be " enlightened " , it is, I think , necessary to perceive everything you are doing as part of the energy cycle. One should get energy out of everything, even unpleasant things such as cleaning, clearing up or tax returns.

If there is a blockage of the energy flow one can do a lot to solve the blockage . Sometimes it helps if energetic filth covers are removed by smoke, sweat lodges and washes or the energy channels ( chakras) are cleaned  (yoga, meditation , tapping , etc.). Often, however, one also needs help from outside - by a doctor or another healer. No matter who it is, he /she does not "cure " – they “only” access the universal energy, amplify it and pass it through.
To accomplish this free flow of energy and with it the physical and mental health, is a major challenge of our life on earth. Therefore, " mens sana in corpore sano " (a healthy mind in a healthy body). It is not only a challenge, though, but also a relief because one can directly influence the spiritual energy through the body's energy  - and the body's energy is often more " tangible " than the direct access to the spiritual energy.
It is also important that if you brought your own Spirit to shine (on a higher vibration ) to try and make enlightenment accessible to others too - to help them to get to the same level as well. Whether one is hereby covered by a human shell or not is completely irrelevant. Many spiritual energies around us are just waiting to be able to help us ( some call them angels) - if we ask them they will help us. These Spirits ( in the human case or without) are already on a higher vibrational level and can therefore help us a lot. Some of us often find it difficult to seek help - through our cerebral cortex this access gets blocked pretty easily. That's why children are often much more sensitive to the spiritual energies (many can see the Spirits, angels) compared to the most " biologically " among us who are furthest away.

Our secondary goal is that ALL OF US achieve the highest level of vibration . That is why we are so often reborn… until all have reached the higher vibration and we can pass to the next world.
My purpose in life is to help as many people as possible to connect with the infinite energy. Whether through sculptures, paintings , texts, photos , dancing, songs or psychotherapeutic, medical work does not matter. If I have achieved that through this letter, I got one little step closer to my goal.
I wish all of us that everyone has discovered one´s life's work and one´s personal connection to the infinite energy so we can all ascend into higher vibrational levels!

Unfortunately sexual abuse and maltreatment of children also belong to the problems that I am faced regularly in my praxis. Not only the action itself, but also the "looking away", the "denial" the "refusing to believe" are constant companions of this topic. Who wants to believe that “this" also occurs in one´s own family, one´s own circle of friends.
Children are threatened, bribed, do not dare to talk and keep it to themselves. Often it is far too late when someone finally realizes what has happened by their behavior.
This exhibition focuses on sexual abuse and ill-treatment, but also on its consequences and brings these issues into the world of bronze sculptures.
The aim is to draw attention to the conditions and grievances of affected children and adolescents. The most prolific and most sought after topic in the world.

Are there new perspectives?
Let yourself be surprised and find yourself again?

In the chapter "inner life" I have put different topics in one. A common feature of this group of sculptures is their style - they all have narrow, long, naturalistic seeming to slightly abstracted bodies with extra long legs, which usually even flow together and immerse in their "footprint" or better "stand top" similar to acupuncture needles.


In addition to this stylistic similarity they are also sculptures which display the inner states of mind. Be it the protest, devotion, fusing, the pain, the simultaneity of give and take, or simply to rest in itself. To be simple. Quiet. Grounded. In the here and now.

The sculptures in this chapter refer to a psychotherapeutic method that was developed by Dr. Manfred Clynes: The " Sentic Cycle", the expression of emotion cycle. (After I had learned the method from him, he allowed me to create sculptures for this cycle)

Why?
To break away from "identifications"!
... only be yourself ... without status ... without network ... shifted for oneself !

My wanderlust has already brought me to all inhabited continents of the world, to different cultures and to different natural monuments and also monuments of art.
I have brought inspiration and sculptures from three trips. That does not mean I was not inspired by other trips too only that these three have left a special impression.


AMERICA 2011 - 2012 : This trip lasted 14 months from June 2011 to August 2012 and led from New York to Canada through the western U.S. to the Baja California, onto the Mexican mainland, through Belize and Guatemala, back to Mexico and then through the North American east back to Canada. My whole family , my husband, our two children and me were on the road with a converted Pinzgauer.
The brought sculptures originated in Baja California . There are sculptures made ​​from driftwood, where I rediscovered "my sculptures". I just had to "get them out of the wood" and then they were visible to others too!
The whole series of sculptures and paintings called "Everything is Energy " was created during and as a result of this journey. The effect of traveling is so persistent that it has changed my whole life.


ICELAND 2008: In Iceland we were on the road with our Pinzgauer for the first time. The trip went  over hedge and ditch, through the most desolate areas, fascinating and surreal landscapes to people who have been shaped by wind and weather. This embossing has fascinated and inspired me to form people that are whipped by wind and rain and have to stick together. If one is alone the forces are too strong. But if we stand together we can weather the storm!


PERU 2008: This trip was organized by the art group Yin Yang from Graz and included one week artistic work with local artists in Cusco. Peru was not just a journey to another continent, but also to a different time. To a time of icons (hand, bird), gods (Pachamama and Pachatata) and deep spirituality, which can be viewed from different angles (eyes).

ABOUT MY SCULPTURES - THE THERAPEUTIC BACKGROUND OF MY SCULPTURES:


Many of my sculptures, like the artworks of many other artists, are externalizations of feelings, symptoms and situations - from my own history or from the ones of my clients that I have internalized - stories which affect  me, make pictures come up in me and which I then convert three-dimensional. This way conscious, unconscious and preverbal topics get expressed. This process is therapeutic for the artist, for me in two ways :
Firstly, because the creative process and the forming in clay itself is a healing process and secondly because by externalizing one can understand a lot better what happened.

 

The “Extern – alisation” takes place in the “verbal” psychotherapy in   words: you “speak it out”. In art you can externalize it through a picture, a sculpture, etc. Many famous artists have processed their experiences this way - think, for example, of Frida Kahlo who has processed her accident and its consequences in her art.

 

Because if we have a feeling or an event visible in mind, our visual perception channel is also activated and we can thereby perceive better on another level, realize, understand and accept. Perhaps even recognize new aspects and communicate more easily about them. Because only if I have accepted what has happened, deep inside of me, can I change, forgive and finally find peace and healing.


Now one can of course say: Great for the artist that he / she processed his/her subjects this way. But what do I, as a viewer, have to do with this?

 

The mirror neurons help! Mirror neurons are neurons in the brain which cause the same pattern of activity come up in our brains while watching something, as they would occur if we would actually perform this move (actively) ourselves not merely watch (passively). This means that what we see makes a mirror neuron cause the same pattern of activity in our brain which the active performance would cause too. So the viewer can “actively” reproduce the process while watching something happen. One could therefore say that the artist takes away some of the viewer´s work! The artist prepares the issues, so that the viewer can enter directly into the manufacturing process - if he wants to. This means if a sculpture makes contact with you, triggers a reaction inside of you, you may be wondering what this may have to do with you and, if you want, get to the bottom of it.

 

For example you might feel attracted to a sculpture like the " sulky boy” ,  if you sometime did not get what you wanted and became defiant.

 

Or to the “Nail biting” , because you used to bite your nails when you were unsure or nervous.

 

Perhaps there were "more violent things" and you hurt yourself 

 

you were a victim of violence, ,

 

sexual abuse  and were perhaps even at the mercy of the groups ,

 

or you got bullied   .

 

If you have experienced anything like this or were confronted with it, it may hurt to see such sculptures. My intention is, however, as I already said, to help the viewer with his/her process of acceptance and healing. Like this a lot of sculptures have already led to new levels of communication as the aggrieved party often felt  mirrored and well understood.

 

But which benefit do unaffected observers have? They should be made aware of the problems others face, reservations should be reduced and they should be motivated to intervene actively and support those in need of help. The sculptures are intended to help reduce misunderstanding, insecurity and rejection by people in the vicinity of the persons concerned. For this reason, I was very happy about my invitation to become an ambassador of the Foundation Respect child's soul. A foundation in which three associations (German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (DGKJP), the "Professional Association of Physicians for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry , Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy in Germany eV" (BKJPP) and the "Federal Association of Senior Hospital Physicians for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and psychotherapy" (BAG) are represented. The goal of this foundation is to actively stand in for the mental health of children and teenagers and establish appropriate programs and projects to support them - more information on www.achtung - kinderseele.org .

I also invite them to take the opposite position, the "perpetrator attitude" .

"Perpetrators" who put up with nothing. On one hand it is often very surprising for the teenagers how much of an impact just their different position of their body can have on their emotional state - head lowered, shoulders in front, knees together, one-legged stand versus fine head, secure footing and a strong upper body. On the other hand, it is sometimes surprising to me that some teenagers´ muscles are already fixed in their victimhood so that they can not put their shoulder backwards and down –  their muscles are already that much shortened.

 

When I work with the technique of the FAMILY BOARD (a technique from systemic therapy)  where one usually uses stones or neutral figures to represent other persons, I occasionally provide my sculptures to take these places.

 

 

 

Thus, special characters and situations can be represented even better and the FAMILY BOARD takes on a new dimension and intensity.

 

When the topics of PROXIMITY- DISTANCE or DETACHMENT and letting go come up in a FAMILY DISCUSSION,

I often use the following sculptures:

 

 

The sculptures are slid able on a rail and are representative for any relation between two people. Here the description, how it could work between a mother and a child: At the beginning  mother and child are usually very close (sculptures are very close together). With puberty, the detachment begins and the child distances himself/herself (demonstration). If the mother follows (demonstration) , the child goes away even further (demonstration) ....if the mother follows again (demonstration) ..... the dynamics will move toward the abyss, until ..... eventually the child can not go any further (demonstration) and it falls into the abyss.

Return to the starting position: If the child goes, but the mother remains in the same position (demonstration), the child and the mother have the opportunity to find a new distance between them and eventually the child will come closer again (demonstration).

 

If I want to explain MEDICAL CONDITIONS, I like to illustrate them with my sculptures, too. 

 

Be it the eating disorders , the metabolic syndrome  

 

or ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)  with its three different types:

 

    

 

In lectures, it is quite useful to be able to demonstrate these three different types plastically, because as a child and adolescent psychiatrist I´m often confronted with people who do not put “dreamers” into the category of attention deficit disorders. Most of them have only the image of the loud, hyperactive troublemakers in mind.

 

With my series “CONTRASTS” I like to show what a huge INFLUENCE OUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE HAS on our posture.

 

CONTRAST I: 

The anorexic and the thick. The thin blocks everything - food, feelings, love ... she is proud – proud to be able to say “no” and disgusted by the thick who can not say that. The thick is shy and insecure. Her fat is some kind of protective cover to prevent her from getting hurt.

 

CONTRAST III: 

The bodybuilder and the intellectual. In addition to the "hardly" divergent physique, I wanted to specifically point out that what we wear in front of our body axis is what seems most important to us. The intellectual his head - the bodybuilder his pectoral muscle or something lying deeper. The heads do have the same size, but the head of the bodybuilder looks a lot smaller.

 

CONTRAST II: 

The fun-loving and depressed. The positions of their hands do not differ a lot, but one is showing her female forms in full love of life, whereas the other one is pressed by the burden of her life, and bent down because of her (back) pain.

 

In the sculptures ensemble Pompeii I have depicted which different TYPES OF REACTIONS there are to TRAUMATIC EVENTS.

 

Have you already been to Pompeii? If you look at the first three people, you will notice that they take the same position as the people who have been found in Pompeii: asleep, eyes covered or their heads stuck in the sand. It shows various ways in which people react to a problem. But I added some other possible reactions: the surprised, petrified child who does not know what to do, the fighting one, the one running away, the supplicant / petitioner and the ones embracing. Each of us has his/her own patterns! And ...the psychoanalysis often uses the mountain as a symbol for a problem ... so Mount Vesuvius is the perfect symbol for every problem which appears ...

 

In the group of sculptures "BEHIND YOU" 

I wanted to visualize how much "women power" is behind each woman: 

Here: Sixteen women in five rows. In the first row , "the" woman. In the second row - her mother. In the third row - her two grandmothers. In the fourth row her four great-grandmothers. In the fifth row her eight great- great-grandmothers. In the sixth row one would already find sixteen great-great- great-grandmothers ... etc. All the women give their energy - positive or negative – down to the next generation ..... Women Power . 

 

I have dedicated a whole series of sculptures to a psychotherapeutic method that has been developed by Dr. Manfred Clynes called: "THE SENTIC CYCLE" (After he had taught me the method, he allowed me to create sculptures for this cycle).
THE IDEA: In this method one triggers the most important human emotions in a defined order and expresses them in form of finger pressure.

 

It starts with the "NO- FEELING" , the "nothing " , the neutrality of emotions. Dr. Manfred Clynes calls it "no emotions" .

After one has expressed this “no-feeling” 20-40 times for about 3 to 4 minutes with a finger print, you switch to the next emotion: ANGER

 This emotion is also “expressed” 20-40 times.

 

The same way you proceed with the feelings of

 

HATE , GRIEF , LOVE , SEXUALITY , JOY , DEVOTION .

 

I myself allowed me to add one position in my sculptures sequence: The charge or funnel posture which has its origin in yoga.

 

 

While this is not a feeling, it is a way of refueling one´s eergy in order to switch from the emptiness of grief to the fullness of love.

The goal is to go through the full range of emotions and not get stuck with one feeling. After that, one feels more peaceful,  more enjoyable and one comes in conjunction with his real self.

 

Now, if you believe that I am only picking the pathologies of humanity or psychotherapeutic issues,  I can reassure you : Quite a lot of my works have nothing to do with diseases, but are DIRECTLY AIMED AT HARMONY; BALANCE AND HEALING.

 

Again I use the activity of mirror neurons: Whatever you allow to affect you, is mirrored inside of you: You might feel free, powerful, strong or need to smile when you see sculptures with these features.

 

 

What you see here is not a "real" tango position , but a position that shows what I love about tango : the harmony and the marginal physical contact that is sufficient to know which movement follows. It is passion, dedication and individuality at the same time.

 

Also my latest sculptures belong into this last group. They open a new chapter of my work, as they are firstly made ​​of steel and they secondly mainly represent the energy flow in the body, not the body itself. The intention is to make the viewer aware of his true potential, his true nature. Today I want to show you just one example. The male and female energy meet at the Heart Center .

 

 

The complete exhibition with these sculptures will be on display for the first time in November 2014 in the Gallery Centrum in Graz.

 

Now I have led you through the world of my sculptures in a hurry. Finally, I would like to show you one last way my sculptures can be used. Under the section "generation nintendo " I have written stories similar to the ones that today's youth has told me. Stories , which, as they say, are fictitious and their similarity to tales of living persons are purely coincidental.

 

"THE STORY OF kEVIN”

 

 

"Everything ". The first word that Kevin knew. Well knew. For he had "everything". He always had.
He possessed every imaginable toy .... and still he was sad, because what he really wanted was denied. The people who believed to spoil him, but actually ran maim him, mentally , socially , his parents . They loved him, no question, but they did not have time for him and they could not buy him time ...

 

 

They bought him everything he wanted and , like his friends, he now began his life on a virtual basis . He played Nintendo, watched television and stuffed with chips and candy ... and was getting fatter ...

 

    

 

Habit for him was to have everything. If this request was not satisfied by his life, the 

anger, the despair came and its already existing hyperactivity and impulsivity were getting stronger.

 

 

The others, the classmates, the teacher did not accept him. Not like he was. He was too exhausting , too loud. He provoked in anywhere. Nobody liked him. He was alone - all alone - an outsider.

 

 

Repudiation of the real world, he began to retreat . Back to the world he had known from childhood , the accepted and praised him - where he was good. The Virtual . The computer

 

 

Kevin was older, more mature. He began to rethink his life. As we all did it at some point or do - be . He began to realize what had happened. Slowly. Steadily.

 

 

He realized that he closed the real world and the virtual had opened alone. As a prisoner. He had his eyes, ears and mouth closed in order to protect themselves from the challenges of life.

 

 

But now he was getting at. He was strong, Kevin.
And so he got up, stood up. Liberated from his virtual prison and did what he always 

wanted - deep inside him .
He began to go his own way !

THE BRONZE CASTING IN THE LOST WAX METHOD:
 

After a basic framework was made of wire (reinforcement), the sulpture will be shaped from wax.

For this purpose, depending on the need, various types of wax are available. Wenn this is finished, it comes in the foundry, were ventilation and sprues are atached, before the work is wrapped in a refractory plaster coat and is placed in the oven.

 

The wax is melted out, where a part flows out and a part get burnd.

Now liquid bronze is poured in the resulting plaster - refractory mould. After cooling down the bronze, is the sculpture free tagged of beat and sprues are cut off.

This is followed by the post-processing and patinating work.

Making a cast of that sculpture must be taken with a silicone negative with surrounding plaster coat which are filled with wax and then in turn with vent and is provided, finally wrapped in refractory plaster cast schannels.

 

The other process is identical to the one discribed earlier.

The artist determines the number of casts and the Edition.

 

SCULPTURES MADE OF PLASTIC:

 

  1. PLASTIC CAST: Of the sculpture in wax or clay, a silicone and plaster negative will be created and then it will be filled with plastic (it can olso be filled with cement etc.)

  2. SCULPTURE MADE OF PLASTICOn a basic framework of metal, wood or other materials, the sculpture will be directly formed with plastic filler.

  3. SCULPTURE COVERED WITH PLASTIC: Over a sculpture built from a variety of materials, are placed multiple layers of plastic that are reinforced by glass fiber mats or other materials from the like.

A sculpture built from a variety of materials, gets covered by a multiple of mortar layers, that is reinforced by mats or other materials from the like.
